Teachers in six OVEC districts are learning this school year in the Teach Tech KY micro-credential program. Click on the video to learn how it is working in their classrooms.
Students build confidence, persistence, tolerance of ambiguity, capacity to deal with open-ended problems, and ability to communicate and work with others. Read how the International Society for Technology Education (ISTE) and Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) have defined the Computational Thinking Process for K-12 education.
Teachers completing 6 micro- credentials can either earn a $4050 stipend (minus required fringe benefits and taxes) or choose to enroll in the Bloomboard rank change program at no cost, where they can complete 15 additional micro-credentials to earn a rank 1 or rank 2. Learn core concepts of Computer Science & Computational Thinking in 6 micro-credentials on the BloomBoard platform.
Attend an online, facilitated workshop to review
content of 6 Teach Tech KY micro-credentials,
and select sequence for completion aligned to priority
standards and curriculum + $200 stipend for participation.
Complete 6 micro-credentials to learn core concepts of computer science (CS) and computational thinking (CT).
Design and teach CT and CS lessons integrated into their curriculum.
Attend regular online coaching sessions and Virtual Learning Community meetings.
Host a family engagement activity focused on CS and CT - with a micro-grant (up to $600) for materials to each participating teacher.
In addition to in-class teaching time, teachers can expect to devote about 10 hours per month to the project, spread across virtual and
in-person activities such as completing micro-credential learning activities, planning lessons, and receiving and responding to feedback from coaches.
